Academic Rules and Procedures
In the rare case where a student feels that his or her coursework has been evaluated in an unfair manner then the student should file a written complaint with the administration. The students should file this complaint within one week of receiving his or her grades.
Honor Code Statement
Students and faculty at Tooba University are part of a community which is committed to scholarship which depends on meticulous acknowledgment of all sources of information. This also includes the honest and thoughtful use of Tooba University resources.
Tooba University expects all students to be honest and committed to the principles of academic and intellectual integrity in their preparation and submission of course work and examinations.
All submitted assignments must be the student’s original work who must cite all the sources used in its preparation.
Academic misconduct is defined as a violation of Tooba University’s standards of academic integrity whether these violations are intentional or unintentional. Academic misconduct consists of cheating on an exams, plagiarism on an academic assignment, or unauthorized collaborative work.
Evidence of academic misconduct may include, but is not limited to, the following:
- Some of the student’s work coincides with or closely paraphrases a source that is not properly acknowledged.
- Glaring coincidences in the work of students on exams, papers, problem sets, etc., where cooperation in producing the work was not permitted.
Sources that must be acknowledged include, but are not limited to, lab manuals, books, articles in books, journal articles, and web pages, along with graphs, charts, tables, data sets, etc., in any of the sources just mentioned. Proper acknowledgment must indicate both the source and how it served as a source for any specific portions of the student’s assignment.
The informal nature of some writing may remove the necessity of rigorously formal citation, but still requires honest attribution to original authors of all borrowed materials. Students should feel free to consult with instructors or librarians whenever there is doubt as to proper documentation.
Academic Progress Standards and Requirements
The academic year at Tooba University is 32 weeks long. After 4 years during which time students are expected to complete 8 semester course credits of work.
Normal progress toward the degree of bachelor of arts or bachelor of science is made by eight semesters’ work of five course credits or the equivalent of each semester.
A five- course credits per semester is the normal load. Students may and frequently do vary this by programs of three or five semester course credits.
Satisfactory progress towards the 32 credit graduation requirement includes earning passing grades, an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 or by graduation. Students who do not make satisfactory progress toward graduation will delay their graduation.
In order to graduate with the B.Sc. in Islamic Studies, students
- Earned the number of required credit hours.
- Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Met all program course requirements.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they have met
all graduation requirements. Tooba University encourages all degree-seeking students to meet regularly with advisors to ensure that proper progress is made towards their degree.
