Overview & Requirements
The Bachelor’s of Science (B.Sc.) in Islamic Studies offers students the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge in Islamic Belief (Aqeedah), Jurisprudence (Fiqh), Proper Recitation of Qur’an (Tajweed), Prophetic Guidance (Hadith), Exegesis of the Qur’an (Tafsir), Arabic and more, along with the necessary skills to apply it all in the service of society.
The B.Sc. in Islamic Studies requires the completion of 120 course credits, 120 of which are required/core credits and 1 degree prerequisite credit.
Students must take ETQ100 – Etiquettes of Seeking Knowledge (1 Credit Hour), an introduction to the Islamic definition of knowledge and the etiquettes of seeking it, as a prerequisite to the B.Sc. in Islamic Studies within their first 2 semesters (for full-time students) or before the 10th class enrolled in towards the degree (for part-time students).
For a more detailed overview, please refer to the advised coursework sequence for the B.Sc., in Islamic Studies. The sequence is designed for full-time students taking 5 classes (15 Credit Hours) per semester with prerequisite and core courses clearly marked.
Research projects are a required part of the syllabus for every course at Tooba University, giving students the chance to practically apply what they have learned both within and outside the classroom. Research projects help improve students’ problem-solving, reading, writing and speaking abilities and encourages them to tackle today’s most important issues in a scholarly and organized fashion. Projects are assigned at the instructor’s discretion and may be in the form of research papers, internships, teacher assistance and/or community service.
In order to graduate with the B.Sc. in Islamic Studies, students must have:
- Earned the number of required credit hours.
- Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- Met all program course requirements.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that they have met all graduation requirements. Tooba University encourages all degree-seeking students to meet regularly with advisors to ensure that proper progress is made towards their degree.
Tooba University coursework encourages students to combine their Tooba education with their own professional experience to pursue opportunities in Islamic work and within more Islamic environments. This is the vision of many professional Muslims.
The University plans to introduce a Career Services department where students can access a network of job opportunities from national and international Islamic companies and where Islamic and Islam-friendly companies can recruit for their needs. Tooba University cannot guarantee employment.
